VITAMIN B3

What is vitamin B3?

Vitamin B3, or niacin, is an essential nutrient that plays a crucial role in various physiological processes. It is involved in energy metabolism, DNA repair, cell signalling, and the production of important molecules like NAD and NADP. Niacin has been studied extensively for its cardiovascular benefits, as it can improve lipid profiles by raising HDL cholesterol and lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

It is also used to treat niacin deficiency, pellagra, and certain skin conditions. Niacin supplementation may alleviate symptoms of arthritis and enhance brain function. However, high doses should be used cautiously due to potential side effects such as flushing and liver toxicity.

A study conducted by experts examined the effects of nicotinic acid and nicotinamide on individuals with cardiovascular problems, revealing that nicotinic acid provided protection even after a high dosage of this compound.

Another study in 2021 found that for every 1 mg increase in daily niacin intake, the risk of high blood pressure decreased by 2%.

These findings suggest the potential benefits of niacin in cardiovascular health, highlighting its role in blood pressure regulation and its cardioprotective effects. However, it is important to consult with healthcare professionals before making any significant changes to niacin supplementation or treatment
